Japanese Taiko Group SHIBUKI

SHIBUKI: Buffalo’s First Japanese Taiko Group

JGB SHIBUKI was founded in December 2016 as a club of the Japanese Group of Buffalo Buffalo. Inspired by taiko artist Kenji Furudate, and trained under the rigorous guidance of Joe Small — a professional taiko performer born and raised in Buffalo — the members share a passion for taiko rhythm while always striving to improve their skills and approach a professional level. Above all, they are a group that loves what they do.

SHIBUKI has become a regular performer at Buffalo’s major events, including the Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival in spring and the Japan Culture Day in fall. The group also receives performance offers from various music events and community organizations, performing numerous times throughout the year.

In 2026, SHIBUKI celebrates its 10th anniversary, with a commemorative concert planned for 2027.
