Kamishibai Storytelling Event #3

Date & Time: Saturday, September 26, 10:00–11:30 a.m.
Location: Honorable Shirley Chisholm Library (formerly the Amherst Main Library at Audubon), 350 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst

We held our third Kamishibai storytelling event on September 26. Two children and seven adults joined us: the Honbu family, a mother and daughter from the Sasaki family, and four adult organizers.

Mary’s kamishibai performances get closer to professional level with every event, and this time was no exception. Everyone was completely drawn in. Machiko led hand-play songs (te-asobi uta) using a large music sheet with lyrics that she had prepared, which made it easy for everyone to follow along and join in.

It was a small gathering, but a warm and enjoyable morning. Both of these families have been with us since the very first event, so they have perfect attendance. Thank you!

The program was so good that we found ourselves wishing more children could have been there to enjoy it. We hope to see even more families at our next event.
