Second Kamishibai Storytelling & Parent-Child Craft EventKamishibai Event
On Saturday, July 18 (10:00 AM–11:30 AM), we held our second kamishibai storytelling event at the Hon. Shirley Chisholm (Audubon) Branch, Amherst Public Library, Community Room #2. Following the storytelling, all participants made Pikachu headbands and wore them while dancing the Pokémon Ondo.
Mary Hirtzel performed the kamishibai stories “Momotaro” and “The Golden Gift,” and everyone danced the Pokémon Ondo to Miwako Leising’s lead — with the adults joining in enthusiastically and having just as much fun as the kids.
This time we had 3 children and 10 adults (including parents), making it a slightly adult-heavy gathering. An English-language kamishibai will also be featured at the Bon Odori festival in August, so we hope even more of our young members will join us next time.
We look forward to continuing to host events like this — kamishibai and beyond — where our young members and their families can enjoy participating together.
